Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour

My plans for this weekend did not turn out. I had originally decided I would visit the Isle of Suomenlinna on Thursday and then Espoo on the Friday followed by a walking tour today.

I did visit Suomenlinna though and it was a very nice day out. The island itself is an old fortress from the Swedish occupation of Finland and is still used today as the Naval base and a home to 800 or so people.

After this, I came back to the hostel and looked up a visit to Espoo but there didn’t seem to be anything to do so I decided to change up my plan and focus my time on the centre.

Searching online, I found out that there was a free Art Gallery Tour celebrating Finnish artists happening on the Friday. I turned up to that to find that I was only 1 of 2 participants so it was very intense going to these galleries but ultimately a good experience to see these works. After this, I expected to come back to the hostel so I could update you all, but instead I ended up going with the other participant and he showed me some features of Helsinki, including a trip to a small Jazz show and when we went to a pub, we actually found out we had gatecrashed a leaving party for someone.

Then this morning I knew there was a Free walking tour around Helsinki so I joined in with that and learnt all about the history of particular buildings and their architecture, before heading back to the hostel to write all this down.

Things might not be going according to plan but it sounds like you still getting it all in. A jazz club is a definite change of track!!
